Communique Issued

COMMUNIQUE ISSUED AT THE END OF THE EXTRA-ORDINARY GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE MUSLIM UMMAH OF SOUTHWEST NIGERIA,  MUSWEN HELD AT ISLAMIC CENTRE, UNIVERSITY OF IBADAN CENTRAL MOSQUE,  IBADAN  ON YAWM AL-AHAD, 7^TH RABIUL-AT-THANNI, 1442 AH (SUNDAY 22^ND NOVEMBER,  2020).

MUSWEN  is the umbrella  body for all state Muslim Councils/Communities and organizations in the Southwest of Nigeria and was established in 2008 to facilitate the unity of the Muslims in the region and to solidify the brotherhood of the Ummah in the entire country.

The Extraordinary  General Assembly of the Muslim Ummah of Southwest Nigeria, MUSWEN was held at the Islamic Centre, University of Ibadan Central Mosque complex, under the chairmanship of Chairman,  Board of Trustees of MUSWEN ,H.E ,Judge Bola  AbdulJabar Ajibola, SAN, KBE, CFR represented by a  member of the board and Chairman, Oyo State Muslim Community, Alhaji Ishaq Kunle Sanni.

The Extraordinary General Assembly was well attended by  about two hundred  Muslim  leaders from the six States of the Southwestern region including others that joined through virtual platform.  A Keynote Speech on the theme “MUSWEN: Consolidating The Unity” was delivered by the Chief of Staff to Ogun State Governor , Alhaji Shuaib Salis.

Observations

Giving the current economic,  political and religious situations in Nigeria today, MUSWEN through an appraisal at its Extraordinary General Assembly observed as follows:

1. The MUSWEN noted with concern and expressed great disappointment over the demolition of a mosque in the Lagos mainland which is under investigation.
2. The body expressed gratitude that despite the existence of the various interest groups, the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs has continued to ensure that the unity of Muslim Ummah is upheld.
3. In view of the recent #ENDSARS  protests in the country which claimed lives and destroyed property worth trillions of Naira, the MUSWEN urged all Nigerians to remain peaceful and support the Federal overnment and other levels of Governments in their efforts to address the agitations of the protesters.
4. The rate of attack on Muslims and mosques in the South-East and South-South of the country is condemned in a its entirety while relevant authorities should endeavour to arrest injustice being done to the Muslims in the regions.
5. The Assembly appreciated the efforts of the former Governor of Oyo State, late Senator Ishaq Abiola Ajimobi  for his landmark gesture at securing a parcel of land for the MUSWEN International Resource Centre and prayed to Allah to grant him Jannatul Firdaus
6. The Assembly observed with concern the activities of some elements to undermine the unity of the Muslim Ummah in Yorubaland and the nation at large along political, ethnic or any sub-sectional lines and therefore maintained that the unity of the  Ummah is sacrosanct and not negotiable.
7. The General Assembly appreciated all the leaders and elders of the Ummah for standing by the organization despite the leadership vacuum created by the death of former President, Dr Sakariyah O Babalola OON.

Resolutions

Consequent upon the aforementioned observations, MUSWEN’s Extra-ordinary General Assembly resolves as follows;

1. The MUSWEN is urged to create a database for all the Muslim professionals in the Southwest
2. All Muslim organizations should run literacy class and skills acquisitions centres to empower numerous non- literate Muslims
3. To appreciate the diversity among the Muslims, embrace Islamic ethics of disagreement and correct others with love so as to enhance the unity of the Ummah
4. The General Assembly ratified the nominations of Alhaji Rasaki Oladejo, FCS  and Alhaji Rafiu Ebiti as President and Deputy-President 1 for MUSWEN.
5. The General Assembly also ratified the nomination of the new President of MUSWEN as the Deputy President-General, Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs in Nigeria under the leadership of President -General of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs in Nigeria and Sultan of Sokoto,  Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar,  CFR, mni.
6. In his acceptance speech, the new President of MUSWEN, Alhaji Rasaki Oladejo, having sought the cooperation of all stakeholders said MUSWEN would embark on various  programmes that would enhance the development of the Ummah in the region while youths and women  would be mobilized to participate fully in its activities.
7. The General Assembly called on the new leadership of the Ummah to work vigorously to unite all stakeholders in the MUSWEN with a view to consolidating the unity and gains of the recent years
